âWhat is BEP-20?â
Itâs one of two token standards found on BNB Chain, which is the new name for the ecosystem hosting BNB Beacon Chain (previously Binance Chain) and BNB Smart Chain (previously Binance Smart Chain [BSC]). Youâll often hear people referring to the entire ecosystem as BSC.
The other token standard is BEP2.

The BNB token (previously known as Binance Coin) is actually a BEP2, not a BEP20 token as itâs issued by the BNB Beacon Chain. Tokens like $PING are BEP-20, theyâre issued by smart contracts running on top of BNB Smart Chain which is a smart-contract-capable blockchain, as opposed to BNB Beacon Chain which is just used for ecosystem governance.
BEP-20 was derived from Ethereumâs ERC-20, giving it compatibility with Ethereum. Read more about EVM compatibility here:
